Week 17 QB Index: Where Does Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence Land After Loss to Buccaneers?

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has fallen on hard times in recent weeks.
The third-year signal-caller is in the midst of his most mistake-filled three-game stretch of the season, and now the injuries are continuing to pile up after Sunday's 30-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lawrence was replaced by C.J. Beathard in the final quarter, though Lawrence finished the drive he was injured on with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Lawrence ultimately injured his shoulder when diving out of bounds and landing on it near the end of the third quarter.
Lawrence finished the game 17-of-29 for 211 yards and a touchdown, also throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble. To this point in his career, Lawrence has never missed a start, becoming one of just three quarterbacks this week to start every single game since Week 1 of the 2021 season.
"Yeah, I’d be wrong if I said I didn’t think I could be better. Obviously I’ve had a lot of turnovers this year, it’s something where I know just ball security in and out of the pocket, mostly in the pocket this year, I’ve had some fumbles," Lawrence said on Wednesday. "That’s something I’ve got to improve on, that’s something that every game there’s going to be some guys back there, I’m going to have to take care of the ball and not give the ball away in those situations. That’s something where I’ve got to get better, I got to take the responsibility and accountability for that. I know I’ve got to be better.
"Then, just decision making. There’s plays where things happen and maybe I saw something and the defense gave a certain look, maybe you chalk it up to the defense making a good play or making a bad decision or miss a throw. I had one of those in the game where I missed a throw to Evan [TE Evan Engram] a little bit high, and stuff like that happens. It’s unfortunate, but you’ve got to be able to move on. You can’t do anything about it. You can’t change it. Moving forward, just really knowing that’s been our Achilles heel as an offense is turnovers this year, just understanding how important it is to hold onto the ball and just making it even more of an emphasis. We do already, but obviously I need to be better. Just making sure that I don’t put our team in any tougher situations than we’ve already been in and just taking care of it. That gives us the best chance to win more than anything, if we can hold onto the ball and make all of our possessions count.”
As such, Lawrence is falling to one of his lowest spots in the weekly QB Index from NFL.com.
"The prevailing sentiment after Lawrence suffered yet another injury (this time, to his throwing shoulder) is the quarterback simply isn’t healthy. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s 100 percent, and flirted with a new low for 2023 in Week 16, accounting for three turnovers. He also never really threatened the Buccaneers in this game, struggling to find a rhythm before Tampa had built a double-digit lead. Jacksonville is in freefall, and Lawrence doesn’t have a parachute," NFL.com. said.
