No Need to Worry as Quinnen Williams Jabs Jets on Social Media

Quinnen Williams dissed the New York Jets on social media, but it’s not time for supporters of the All-Pro defensive tackle to hit the panic button when it comes to his future with the team.
The former Alabama star “scrubbed” Gang Green clean of his social media accounts and unfollowed the Jets’ official Instagram account. Williams went as far as changing his Twitter profile bio to read “Defensive Tackle for ……………….”
Heading into the fifth-year option portion of his rookie contract, the 6-foot-3 Williams wants a new agreement that will rank amongst the richest defensive tackle deals in NFL history. He has failed to attend the early phases of OTAs, which are voluntary as set forth by the NFL CBA.
Meanwhile, even despite the social media smoke, the Jets are likely willing to pay fair market value for the centerpiece of their defense, keeping their former top draft pick in Green & White for years to come.
Spotrac estimates the value of the 25-year old Williams' next contract to be $106.7 million over four years.
Even when the two sides eventually land in the same ballpark on AAV, there will still be plenty of details that need to be worked out between both parties. The good news is there's plenty of time to do it before Week 1.
In his “MMQB Day After Notes,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer addressed the Williams contract situation and stopped short of sounding the alarm. The senior SI scribe also noted this portion of the offseason is an opportunistic time for "holdouts."

"Forget about the idea that Quinnen Williams gets traded from the Jets. He’s a legit game-wrecker, and he waited an extra year (like Nick Bosa has in San Francisco) to get his big payday, so he’s justifiably not planning on taking a discount. But New York knows what it has and—with Aaron Rodgers aboard—is all in for 2023.
Also, it’s May, and with the summer holdout rules being what they are, this has become the time of year when players looking for new contracts rattle cages (see: Samuel, Deebo). So save your “destinations” stories on the star DT."

Breer also opined on the NFL's decision to award a playoff game to Peacock streaming service and also talked about Bryce Young and the Panthers.
Early in the day on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football," show co-host Peter Schrager knocked Williams for his social media stunts, but expressed the belief that a deal will get done at some point.
"This is a beloved player with a team that loves him and they will take care of him," said Schrager.
An item worth noting, the Jets re-signed linebacker Quincy Williams, Quinnen's older brother, to a three-year contract, preventing him from hitting the free agent market this past March.
