Undrafted rookie safety Marquis Waters has played a lot of football over the past six years — 66 college games to be exact.

The native Floridian spent four seasons in the Atlantic Coast Conference before two years in the Big 12.

Closing out his collegiate career with Texas Tech, Waters accounted for a productive 2022 campaign that included 13.0 tackles-for-loss in 13 games. The run-stopping safety totaled 60+ tackles in four different seasons, three of which came with the Duke Blue Devils.

Waters also pressured the passer on occasion, logging 1.0 sacks and seven QB hurries last fall. He performed well during a memorable final game with the Red Raiders. Waters made five stops and an interception in Texas Tech's win over SEC member Ole Miss in the TaxAct Texas Bowl.

An exemplary student, in addition to his athletic prowess, Waters was a nominee for the William V. Campbell Trophy while also earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Academic First Team.

Not a highly-graded prospect amongst the 2023 NFL Draft class, Waters will have to prove he is more than just a camp body with the New York Jets. The undrafted rookie is one of eight safeties on Gang Green's 90-man roster, including veteran Chuck Clark who is headed for Injured Reserve.
