Counting up the number of days until the National Football League's roster cutdown deadline, our Jets Country player series continues with the New York Jets' hard-hitting safety who wears jersey No. 3 — Jordan Whitehead.

Reportedly having his contract re-structured, Whitehead is ready for his second season with Gang Green.

The Pitt product started all 17 games after signing with the Jets as a free agent last offseason. Whitehead began his pro career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who took the defensive back in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The thumper will likely line up primarily at strong safety with former Baltimore Raven Chuck Clark stepping into the free safety spot.

Whitehead accounted for a career-high 89 total tackles in 2022. He picked off two passes, but, according to Pro Football Focus, he dropped four potential interceptions. The Keystone State native held opposing passers to a 54.5 completion percentage when targeting his man.

"I think Jordan’s going to be a lot better playing his second year in the system," said Jets' head coach Robert Saleh in late March at the NFL League Meetings.

Jets Restructure Former Pitt S Jordan Whitehead's Contract
According to Over The Cap, Gang Green did some work on the 26-year old Whitehead's contract. The Jets converted $5.3 million of the $10.2 million 2023 cap hit into a signing bonus and added four void years to the deal.

'Excited to be Here,' Former Raven Chuck Clark Will Play Alongside Whitehead
Whitehead will lock down the strong safety role for the second year in a row, but he'll have a new backfield mate in 2023. Clark will slide into the spot vacated by the unsigned Lamarcus Joyner.
