Jets Fill Two Practice Squad Spots as Three Games Remain
Keeping the Practice Squad stocked is a must at this point in the season as injuries continue to pile high. The New York Jets announced two additions to the 16-man unit on Tuesday.
The Jets have inked defensive tackle Manny Jones and running back Jacques Patrick to P-Squad deals.
Jones played four games for the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted rookie last season. The defensive lineman was in training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers this past summer. He subsequently spent three weeks on the New England Patriots' Practice Squad before being released on October 18.
The 24-year-old Jones provides insurance at a position decimated by injury recently. Defensive tackles Perrion Winfrey and Tanzel Smart are on Practice Squad Injured Reserve. Meanwhile, Jalyn Holmes was called up to the 53-man roster to replace Quinton Jefferson, who landed on IR on December 19.
Patrick has spent time with six different NFL organizations since going undrafted out of Florida State in 2019. The 26-year-old running back was most recently on the Tennessee Titans' Practice Squad. He has two NFL regular season appearances to his credit, both from 2021 with the San Francisco 49ers.
The 6-foot-2 Patrick competed in the XFL this past spring as a member of the San Antonio Brahmas. He accounted for at least 88 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in each of his last three XFL games. The bruising ball carrier made multiple receptions out of the backfield in seven of 10 appearances.
Jones joins Marquiss Spencer and Bruce Hector as defensive linemen on the Jets' Practice Squad. Patrick is one of two P-Squad running backs, joining Xazavian Valladay.
The Jets (5-9) return to game action for the home finale against the Washington Commanders (4-10) on December 24.
