Joshua Dobbs Evaluates Brock Purdy

Dobbs recently went on the Adam Schefter Podcast and discussed what he admires about Purdy, and in the process revealed why he wants to be Purdy's backup.

Why does Joshua Dobbs want to play for the 49ers?

He's never going to be their starting quarterback, because they have Brock Purdy. Wouldn't Dobbs want to go somewhere he could compete for a starting job? Or at least to a team that has a worse starting quarterback than Purdy?

Dobbs recently went on the Adam Schefter Podcast and discussed what he admires about Purdy, and in the process revealed why he wants to be Purdy's backup.

"He does have a great cast," Dobbs said, "but at the end of the day, he has to be the decision-maker and the driving force of the offense, and the way he makes good decisions, takes care of the football and plays just efficient, clean football. Like, he might not go out there and make the wild play all the time, but he’s going to go out there and put his team in a great position to be successful. And that’s what you have to do, especially in the Kyle Shanahan offense, and then obviously, especially when you have some really good weapons around you."

Dobbs is extremely smart, because he praised Purdy, but in a way also praised himself. Dobbs said that Purdy essentially is a great fit for the 49ers because he's decisive, he takes care of the football and he doesn't do too much. Whether Dobbs realizes it or not, he just described a game manager, which is what he is. Meaning when he described Purdy, he also described himself.

So while Dobbs clearly respects Purdy, I'm guessing Dobbs also feels he can flourish if given an opportunity to play in the same situation.

We'll see about that.
