Brad Holmes Says Contract Talks with Jamaal Williams Have Started

General manager Brad Holmes says their is 'mutual interest' in bringing back Jamaal Williams.

The Detroit Lions have started contract talks to bring back running back Jamaal Williams. 

Speaking at the NFL scouting combine, general manager Brad Holmes expressed their has been "mutual interest" by both parties to continue their working relationship and early negotiations have started. 

"I really just want to stay with Detroit, if I can," Williams expressed, via the team's website during the SuperBowl. "Really just stay here and make my mark here. I really want to finish (my career) here if I could.

"I understand it's a business and the team has to do what's best for them and I have to do what's best for me, too, but I just really want us to come to a mutual agreement and just get it done and just get back to playing football."

The talented running back recorded 17 touchdowns in his second season in Motown, becoming the record-holder for most rushing touchdowns in a single-season.

Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders was the previous record-holder, accomplished during the 1991 season. 

Williams, 27, secured his first career 1,000-yard season, ranking 10th overall among all NFL running backs.
