Panthers Request to Interview Lions Mike Disner for GM Opening

Detroit Lions Chief Operating Officer Mike Disner is drawing interest from another NFL organization.

According to multiple reports, Disner, who first brought up current Lions general manager Brad Holmes as a potential candidate in Detroit, has an opportunity to be interviewed for the Carolina Panthers GM vacancy.

Disner has vast experience in both football operations and the business side of the game.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, a disappointing season resulted in GM Scott Fitterer and head coach Frank Reich being dismissed.

Pro Football Hall of Famer wideout Calvin Johnson credits Disner for beginning to repair the fractured relationship with the Lions organization.

"Yeah, man, I think we're having some good conversations," Johnson explained. "Mike Disner, over there with the Lions, he's back in town. I feel like he's going to make the effort to bring the two of us together, get us back on the same page. I'm excited about that. I'm excited about him actually reaching out and putting the effort forward to try to make that happen."

Disner is in his fourth season with the team and has moved his way up the ranks of the organization. He is responsible for managing the team's salary cap and handling contract negotiations.

According to the team's website, "In May of 2022, Disner was named the organization's Chief Operating Officer after previously serving as senior vice president of football and business administration. In his current role, Disner assumes responsibilities across both the football and business management, overseeing the team's football operations and football administration, as well as leading the Lions' strategy and revenue teams."
