GREEN BAY, Wis. – Everyone’s favorite NFL Draft prospect for the Green Bay Packers this year is Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean.

The love for DeJean makes sense.

He’s a great player, first and foremost. In 2023, he won the Big Ten’s Tatum-Woodson Award as the conference’s top defensive back and the Rodgers-Dwight Award as the conference’s top returner. While his interception count dropped from five to two, he allowed a 43.5 percent completion rate in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus.

He’s a great athlete, too. At 6-foot 1/2 and 203 pounds, he’s got 4.44 speed and a 38.5-inch athlete. DeJean possesses an elite combination of size and athleticism. When run at cornerback, his Relative Athletic Score is 9.85. At strong safety, his RAS drops to 9.49, mostly because he’d be a bit light for the position.

He’d fill whatever need needs to be filled in Jeff Hafley’s defense. DeJean is one of the top cornerbacks in the draft and could thrive at safety. A high-ranking scout before the start of free agency said the best-case scenario for the Packers at safety would be to sign Xavier McKinney and draft DeJean.

The question is whether DeJean will be on the board when the Packers are on the clock at No. 25.

At FanDuel Sportsbook, the over/under for his draft slot is 22.5. He has the third-shortest odds to be the No. 1 cornerback drafted behind Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell and Alabama’s Terrion Arnold.

Of course, DeJean isn’t the only prospect of interest for the Packers. They need help on the offensive line, whether it’s tackle or on the interior. Really, they could use a player at every position on the defense.
