In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – For a team that reached the NFL’s version of the Elite Eight, the Green Bay Packers have a considerable number of needs entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Fortunately, with five picks in the Top 100 – only the Arizona Cardinals have more – they have plenty of premium draft picks to address those shortcomings.

Luke Easterling filled the big holes with a four-round mock draft at Sports Illustrated.

With the first-round selection, Easterling joined the growing choir in support of Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean. Depending on how free agency shakes out, the Packers could have needs at cornerback, slot and safety. DeJean could fill them all, with proven production at all three spots.

The Packers also have needs on the offensive line with the potential release of left tackle David Bakhtiari and the potential loss of right guard Jon Runyan, at safety with Darnell Savage, Jonathan Owens and Rudy Ford headed to free agency, defensive line with the schematic change and need to bolster the run defense, linebacker to provide a starter/depth with the switch to the 4-3, and running back with the need to restock the backfield and potentially replace AJ Dillon.

Easterling took care of all of those issues.

The interesting choice came in the fourth round. That’s where Easterling selected Michigan running back Blake Corum over Wisconsin Braelon Allen, USC’s Marshawn Lloyd and Kentucky’s Ray Davis in a strong backfield class.

Corum might be too short for the Packers’ tastes, but he was a superb player for the national champions. Over his final three seasons, he topped 3,600 rushing yards with 54 receptions and 59 total touchdowns.

Walter Football (4 Rounds): Iowa DB Cooper DeJean

It was another vote for DeJean in the first round.

The second-round picks were used on the defense with Alabama edge Chris Braswell and USC safety Calen Bullock. They were big-time producers. Braswell had a strong senior year with a career-high eight sacks and three forced fumbles, and his pass-rush win rate was elite. Bullock, who thrived in the single-high role that defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley will be looking to fill, had nine interceptions during his three seasons, including five in 2022.

The third-round choices were spent on running back Blake Corum – AJ Dillon “was horrible” in place of Aaron Jones – and run-stopping Alabama defensive tackle Justin Eboigbe.

The fourth-round choice was yet another player from Alabama.

USA Today: Offensive Linemen

Nate Davis and Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz each took offensive tackles. For Davis, it was Washington’s Troy Fautanu. For Middlehurst-Schwartz, it was Arizona’s Jordan Morgan.

Both players were college left tackles who could stick at that position or move inside to guard. They’ll probably start their NFL careers at left tackle. Morgan had a superb week at the Senior Bowl to show he could stick at that spot.

“After compiling the league's most impressive collection of young skill-position players, it's time for Brian Gutekunst to turn his attention to his offensive front,” Middlehurst-Schwartz said. “Morgan could either take over for David Bahktiari as another undersized yet promising left tackle or kick inside to guard.”

Touchdown Wire: Georgia OT Amarius Mims

Doug Farrar did the mocking (but provided no explanations). Listed at 6-foot-7 and 340 pounds, Mims gave up one total pressure in seven games at right tackle in 2023. The Packers have a right tackle with Zach Tom; is Tom capable of switching to left tackle? Or would that spot go to Rasheed Walker and would Tom fit in somewhere else?

Packer Central (7 Rounds): First-Round Receiver

Yes the Packers went with a receiver in Jacob Westendorf’s second weekly mock draft.
