Inactives: Tight end Trey Burton out for Bears

The Chicago Bears will go without tight end Trey Burton for tonight’s season-opening game against the Green Bay Packers.

Burton had offseason surgery on a sports hernia and was listed as limited participation all week with a groin injury that the team said is a separate injury.

“I feel like it is getting slightly better, but we’ll make that decision as we go,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said on Tuesday. “It’ll end up being pretty much a game-time decision, and that’s all we can really do. We’re prepared both ways.”

Burton, of “Philly Special” fame in the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory over New England, caught career highs of 54 passes for 569 yards and six touchdowns last year, his first with the Bears.

The one noteworthy thing from the Packers’ inactives list was the inclusion of offensive tackle Alex Light.

Light made the roster as the only pure backup offensive tackle. However, should something happen to either of the starting tackles, it appears the job will fall upon starting right guard Billy Turner.

Light was added to the injury report on Tuesday with an injured wrist but was listed as full participation on Tuesday and would have been full participation on Wednesday.

Active for the Packers is linebacker B.J. Goodson, who the team acquired in a trade that was made official on Tuesday. He did not practice this week, though. With Oren Burks out, veteran Blake Martinez and rookie Ty Summers will get the start.
