Graham, King return as Packers turn attention to Bears

Four players did not practice on Sunday.

Two starters returned to the practice field on Sunday as the Green Bay Packers kicked off preparation for their season-opening game at Chicago.

Cornerback Kevin King, who has been out since injuring a hamstring on Family Night on Aug. 2, and tight end Jimmy Graham, who injured a finger while trying to catch a pass on Aug. 18, were part of the team’s practice.

With King missing a month, it’s possible his game availability might be a week away. In two seasons, he’s missed 17 of a possible 32 regular-season games and played just 32.5 percent of the defensive snaps.

By NFL rule, teams playing on a Thursday have to produce injury reports on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also back in action was guard Cole Madison, who surprisingly won a spot on the 53-man roster after sitting out last season due to personal issues. He did not play in the preseason finale against Kansas City on Thursday due to an ankle injury.

Cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman and inside linebacker James Crawford were limited to noncontact work; Crawford was in a helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Brady Sheldon during the Kansas City game. Receiver Darrius Shepherd, inside linebacker Oren Burks (pectoral), tight end Jace Sternberger (ankle) and defensive lineman Fadol Brown did not participate.

After a long layoff for the front-line players – most of the players on the roster did not play against the Chiefs – coach Matt LaFleur had them do extra conditioning.

“We had the guys work out on Thursday and Friday just to make sure that we are in shape,” LaFleur said before Sunday’s practice. “There’s nothing like going out there and getting those real game reps. I think our guys have been working hard. I think we’ll have a better feel for that today as we get out there and practice.”
