Injury report: King takes another step toward playing Thursday

For a second consecutive day, Green Bay Packers cornerback Kevin King was on the practice field – a good sign for his availability for Thursday night at Chicago after missing a month of training camp with a hamstring injury.
“I’m going to be out there,” King proclaimed on Sunday.
For just how long is another matter, considering King missed the joint practices against Houston and all four preseason games. Assuming he practices again on Tuesday, he will have three consecutive practices under his belt.
“We’re still evaluating that,” defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said. “He’s got to work back. He’s in shape, but there’s just no substitute for getting those playing reps. So, we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to handle some of the workload, but I doubt it would be – for any player that’s had that period of inactivity – I doubt it will be a full game.”
King was listed as limited participation on Monday’s injury report, the first of the week.
The Packers might be able to get by with a limited dose of King. The Bears did not have a prolific passing attack last season. Plus, the cornerback depth might be better than it has been in years, assuming Tony Brown can take a strong preseason into the regular season and the 36-year-old Tramon Williams can hold up. On the other hand, Chicago might rely heavily on three-receiver sets if tight end Trey Burton is out. The Bears used three receivers on 62.2 percent of offensive snaps last season, according to Football Outsiders.
Here’s the injury report. For those keeping score, it’s 18-2.
