Week 17 NFL Power Rankings Roundup: Defense ‘Falls Off Cliff’
Four-Point Stance
One: Vikings outside linebacker Danielle Hunter, who is third in the league with 15.5 sacks, has at least one full sack in 11 of his 15 games this season. That’s the most in the NFL and one off Jared Allen’s franchise record. He had one sack and two forced fumbles in the victory over Green Bay in Week 8. Surprisingly, he’s been slightly more productive on the road (nine sacks in eight games) than at home (6.5 sacks in seven games).
Two: From Kirk Cousins to Jaren Hall to Joshua Dobbs to Nick Mullens. Those four have started games at quarterback for the Vikings this season, the most in franchise history. Who will start on Sunday against Green Bay is the big question. Whoever the quarterback, he’ll have weapons. With receivers Jordan Addison, Justin Jefferson and K.J. Osborn and tight end T.J. Hockenson, the Vikings are one of two teams in the NFL with four players with at least 45 catches for 500 receiving yards and three touchdowns. (San Francisco is the other team.) Hockenson, however, is out following a season-ending knee injury.
Three: While Hockenson (and maybe Addison) will be out for Sunday night, Jefferson is back after missing the first matchup while on injured reserve. In his fourth season, Jefferson has 5,648 receiving yards for his career. That’s the most in NFL history, with Jefferson breaking the record previously held by the Saints’ Michael Thomas by piling up 141 yards in the loss to Detroit on Sunday. Jefferson’s 375 receptions are the third-most through four seasons, trailing only Thomas (470) and Jarvis Landry (400).
Four: Packers QB Jordan Love is tied with Dallas’ Dak Prescott and San Francisco’s Brock Purdy with a league-high seven games of multiple touchdown passes and zero interceptions. According to the Packers’ Dope Sheet via Stathead, only Purdy and Hall of Famer Dan Marino (eight apiece) have more such games in their first 16 career starts dating to 1970.
