Watch: Skill-Position Players at Packers Practice

In this story:
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers returned from their bye on Monday with Aaron Jones back on the practice field.
While there were high hopes for second-year receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs at the start of the season, Jones entered the year as Green Bay’s best proven playmaker. However, due to a hamstring injury sustained in Week 1, Jones has played only 48 snaps through five weeks. That’s not only 131 less than AJ Dillon but 22 less than Patrick Taylor, who’s no longer with the team.
“Just adds a guy that you can rely on,” offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said of Jones after practice. “Like, ‘Hey, if we get this guy the ball 12 to 15 times a game, some really good things are going to happen.’ There’s no doubt about it. So, it is what it is, though. If he’s not out there, then you have to adjust. But, yes, it is a thing we have to deal with.”
The Packers haven’t dealt with it well at all, with quarterback Jordan Love unable to overcome the absence of the experience and explosive runner. Jones ranks 72nd among running backs with 14 carries.
With Jones delivering two explosive plays and two touchdowns in about two-and-a-half quarters against Chicago, the Packers romped 38-20 in Week 1. Green Bay scored only 33 points in back-to-back losses to Detroit and Las Vegas. The last three games, it ranks 25th with 17.0 points per game.
Up next for the Packers is a game at the Denver Broncos, followed by home clashes against the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams, before a game at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Denver is 32nd in scoring defense, Minnesota is 21st, Los Angeles is 11th and Pittsburgh is 20th.
“I think with our offense the biggest thing right now is you may have the perfect play called and you just kind of get the bare minimum,” Stenavich said, “or you may have a bad play called and then a playmaker doesn’t get you out of it. He’s one of those guys that really has a knack for it.”
