Panthers Sign WR Marquez Stevenson

Another receiver added to Shawn Jefferson's room.

The Carolina Panthers made a bevy of roster moves on Tuesday, including the signing of three XFL players.

Arguably the most notable move, though, is free agent wide receiver Marquez Stevenson. Stevenson was taken in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. In five games with the Bills, Stevenson only appeared in six offensive snaps but was, however, afforded an opportunity on special teams returning 14 punts for 132 yards and seven kicks for 165 yards. After one year with the team, Buffalo cut ties with him leading to his signing with the Cleveland Browns.

With all of the players the Panthers have added to the wide receiver room this offseason, Stevenson's best chance to make the roster will be as a returner.

In addition to Stevenson, the Panthers also signed safety Vernon Scott and offensive tackle BJ Wilson. Scott was a seventh-round draft choice of the Packers in 2020 and tallied 14 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and one QB hit in 18 games with Green Bay. As for Wilson, he is signing as an undrafted free agent, which makes him the first player from Queens University to ink a deal with an NFL team.
