Increasingly, in this Golden Age of Communication - "golden,'' that is, because of the technology as opposed to how it is sometimes utilized - athletes are coming to realize that they can send and control their messages themselves. Between social media and podcasts, they can offer a direct pipeline to their audience and to their truth.

Enter ESPN's Adam Schefter vs. the Miami Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey, an an issue about the "truth'' as it relates to Sunday's Week 8 matchup featuring the New England Patriots at Miami.

"Dolphins are planning for CB Jalen Ramsey to make his return Sunday from the knee injury that he suffered this summer, per sources," Schefter reported on Thursday. "Ramsey now is expected to be back on the field three months after his knee surgery, with his Dolphins’ debut coming vs. the Patriots."

This is major NFL news and it is welcome NFL news (well, except for the 2-5 Patriots, who already figure to have their challenges with the 5-2 Dolphins) ... assuming it is true.

Which, Ramsey said, it is not.

"So this is why I just got a crazy amount of texts," the rehabbing All-Pro cornerback said via - natually, social media. "Well, this is news to me … mfs don’t care about being right, they care about being first in today’s media. That’s sad."

There are now critics of Ramsey who suggest he will be left with egg on his face should he indeed plays on Sunday. That is inaccurate. Obviously it is Ramsey's hope to be healthy enough to contribute to Miami's run toward the AFC East title; that hope could be realized in the coming days. But as of Thursday night, the "expectation'' that he will play in Week 8 is "news to me,'' Ramsey said.

And logically, that first-hand "news'' should, at the moment, usurp anything Schefter has to say.
