Patriots Release 2023 Offseason Workout Program Schedule

The New England Patriots offseason workout program is set to officially commence on April 17.

FOXBORO — With the 2023 NFL Draft just over one month away, the New England Patriots have announced the key dates for their offseason workout program.

The schedule was confirmed by a NFL communications memo sent on Friday afternoon.

For the Pats, their offseason program will begin on April 17 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The team will conduct ten voluntary organized team activities between May 22 and June 9. Mandatory minicamp is set to begin on June 12.

Here is the New England Patriots Offseason Workout Program Calendar for 2023:

(dates are subject to change at the discretion of the team):

First Day: April 17

OTA Offseason Workouts (Voluntary):May 22-23, May 25, May 30-31, June 2, June 5-6, June 8-9

Mandatory Minicamp: June 12-14

Voluntary offseason workout programs are intended to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players. Per the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases:

The first phase of the program consists of activities including meetings, strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation. These activities take place over the course of a two-week period.

During the second phase, teams are able to increase their activities to on-field workouts. For the Patriots, the workouts will take place in Foxboro over three weeks. They may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as “perfect play drills,” and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk through pace. No live contact or team offense versus team defense drills are permitted during this time,

The third phase takes place over the final four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, otherwise known as OTAs. At this time, 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills are permitted without live contact.

Full-pads practices and contact drills will arrive when the Patriots regroup for training camp in late July.

Each club may also hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, beginning on May 15. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft.

The dates of each club’s post-draft rookie minicamps — including the Patriots — will be circulated at a later date.

The Patriots coaching staff will feature a pair of familiar faces making their return to New England in new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien and presumed offensive line coach Adrian Klemm. The team also hired offensive assistant Will Lawing, while ex-quarterbacks coach Joe Judge will assume the role of assistant head coach, while also helping to direct New England’s special teams unit. Linebackers coach Jerod Mayo is also expected to play a larger role on defense in 2023.
