He very well may have, and that's helped fuel the Patriots' elite defense.

Amid the bevy of storylines that resonated in the New England Patriots' 30-14 win against the New York Jets in Week 3 was linebacker Jamie Collins, who once again stood out on a defense loaded with talent.

Collins recorded six tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for loss. He also dropped a near interception late in the fourth quarter, which was a pass made by Jets QB Luke Falk that hit Collins in the chest not far from the line of scrimmage.

On the season, Collins has 18 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, five tackles for loss, and one touchdown.

2019 seems to be rebirth for Collins. After two and a half lackluster seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Collins has returned to the Patriots, the team that drafted him back in 2013 and had him for three and a half years, and seems to be at his peak potential at 29 years of age. His seasoned athleticism off the edge allows him to blow up run plays, get to the quarterback, and force incompletions in the passing game.

"He's another guy; he works his butt off at practice, he practices hard, he communicates well, he does all of those little things," said Patriots captain Devin McCourty during his post game press conference. "You mesh that together with his athletic ability and that's what you see out there on Sunday. Him playing fast, making plays."

McCourty said he's liked watching Collins develop into the player he is today, which is a fundamental piece to the NFL's best defense through three weeks of regular season play.

"I always said that, when you become one of the older guys and see young guys come in  and develop...Jamie (Collins) came in and didn't play a ton on defense early in his rookie year, and then in the playoffs came in and played big, McCourty said. "Ever since then he's been showing up and making plays. He leaves for a couple years, comes back, it's the same Jamie."

If Collins kept this pace, he who would rack up 96 tackles, 13 sacks, and 21.5 tackles for loss. It's unlikely he could follow through with that stat line, considering his opponents haven't been very strong and it's an all-world pace to keep up with. Either way, having a large fraction of that production could him looking at the second All-Pro tag of his career and his first since 2015.

Collins' ability has helped the Patriots steamroll their opponents in the first three weeks of the regular season, and it doesn't look like he is slowing down anytime soon.
