What once seemed impossible is now becoming more and more likely by the day.

After leading the New England Patriots to six Super Bowls, tied for the most of any team in NFL history, it seemed as if legendary coach Bill Belichick would get to go out on his own terms. Recently, though, that sentiment has been fading fast. Not only were the Patriots mediocre over the past three seasons, but they've been outright bad this year with a 1-5 record.

With each loss, the chorus of voices calling for the Patriots to move on from Belichick grows louder. Even former New England players have expressed these sentiments, with star linebacker Tedy Bruschi being one of the latest to do so.

"I think Bill Belichick is considering it, and I also think Robert Kraft is the one that has to start to consider is it time to move on," Bruschi said. "Right now, if they get a top-five pick, Mr. Kraft has to decide if Bill is the right one to take one of those three or four quarterbacks that you can possibly get and if he wants to start over with Bill."

Hall of Fame cornerback Ty Law, who won won three Super Bowls in New England, echoed Bruschi's thoughts.

“If he wants to walk away, there might be something to that,” Law said on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, per Boston.com. “When I’m looking at him on the sideline, he doesn’t look like he’s having a lot of fun. It’s no fun losing. You see everything about the body language and stuff. He’s a defensive guy. Those guys can’t stop a nosebleed if you gave them a whole year’s supply of Kleenex and cotton balls."

Law's critique of the Patriots' defense is particularly interesting. Most of the Patriots problems lie on offense, which has been outright anemic this season. The defense has been better, but still sits around league average in most stats. Law is a former defensive player, though, so it makes sense that that's what he'd focus on.

If the season continues to go downhill, then it's very possible that it becomes Belichick's last in New England, either by his own decision or the team's.
