Cam Newton Compares First Season With Patriots To Time at Juco

This should scare 31 NFL teams.

It's evident that Cam Newton is motivated to prove he has what it takes to still be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. But is there a way to quantify that motivation?

Well, Newton recently made a comparison between his first season with the New England Patriots and a part of his collegiate career, which should scare the heck out of opponents that were hoping to get a lesser Cam Newton in 2020.

"I've played a lot of football in many different atmospheres, and I would describe this particular atmosphere, on a higher level - and when I say higher, I really mean higher - it's kind of like junior college," Newton said Friday during a video conference with the media when asked what it's going to be like with no fans at games this season. "I feel like in a lot of ways this point of my life kind of feels like that as well. I have so much to prove with an opportunity of a lifetime, and with that being said there was many times in junior college I look back and I say we played games in front of ourselves, and they were meaningful games, but at the end of the day everybody didn't necessarily show up."

Let's catch you up on Newton's trip to junior college; after two years at Florida at the beginning of his college career, Newton was facing potential expulsion from Florida for stealing a fellow student's laptop. In January of 2009 Newton announced that he would be transferring to Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, which is a 2,400 student junior college. 

Because Newton wanted to get back to the highest stage of college football again, he had a lot to prove during his one year at Blinn College. That's why that fall Newton racked up 22 touchdown passes, 2,833 yards, 655 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns and led the Blinn College football team all the way to the NCJAA National Football Championship. 

His production during that one year at Blinn College helped him make his way to Auburn in 2010, where he then won the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award and the Heisman Trophy. 

If Newton takes the same mental approach he had during his time at junior college to his 2020 season with the Patriots, the rest of the NFL is in trouble. 

Cam Newton is out to prove his worth this year, and if he succeeds, he'll light up the NFL.
