Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: HB Braelon Allen, Wisconsin

The Las Vegas Raiders might want to draft a running back for depth and future security in this month's NFL Draft.

The Las Vegas Raiders likely have their top-two running backs for next season, but drafting a running back in the 2024 NFL Draft wouldn't hurt.

Thinking long-term is critical in the NFL, and Las Vegas does not necessarily have a clear future with a veteran-filled running back room. That is why it would be important for the club to add youth to the group through this month's draft.

Halfback Braelon Allen of Wisconsin is a Day-3-caliber prospect who stands out.

Allen was a 2023 All-Big Ten Third Team honoree last year. He finished third in the conference in total rushing yards with 984, which he accomplished in 11 games. Allen also led the Big Ten in rushing yards per attempt with an average of 5.44 (minimum of 150 attempts) and finished second in the conference in rushing touchdowns with 12.

Pro Football Focus gave Allen an overall grade of 74.9 for his 2023 season.

The year before, Allen rushed for 1,242 yards, which ranked fourth in the Big Ten. He started in 12 games for the Badgers, including Wisconsin's victory over Oklahoma State in the 2022 Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Allen won the Offensive MVP of the game with a 116-yard, one-touchdown rushing performance.

PFF gave Allen an overall grade of 80.2 for that 2022 season.

Allen immediately made his presence known in his first year with the Badgers, leading the team with 1,268 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He was named MVP of the Las Vegas Bowl, having posted 159 rushing yards in Wisconsin's win over Arizona State.

PFF gave Allen an overall grade of 80.9 for his 2021 campaign.

Allen recorded a vertical jump of 32 inches, a broad jump of 9-feet-9-inches and a bench-rep total of 26 at this year's NFL Combine. NFL Next Gen Stats gave Allen a total score of 75 for his Combine outing, which ranked eighth among all halfbacks. He was also given an athleticism score of 81 (eighth among halfbacks) and a production score of 68 (14th among halfbacks).

Allen finished his career at Wisconsin with 3,494 rushing yards and 35 rushing touchdowns.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
