Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: FB Jack Westover, UW

The Las Vegas Raiders have used the fullback position throughout their history and could continue to do so if they were to draft a fullback prospect in this month's NFL Draft.

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to extend their reputation as a hard-nosed, gritty team as long as Coach Antonio Pierce has his say.

One position in particular has always represented that mindset throughout the sport's history, and that is the fullback position, one the Raiders have always sought to use to some extent in their offense.

Jakob Johnson has been Las Vegas fullback as of late, but it might be time for a young, perhaps more versatile option to take over that role for the Raiders.

A prospect in this year's NFL Draft class who should be of interest is former Washington tight end Jack Westover.

Westover played a significant role in the Huskies' run to the national championship game, playing in all 15 games. He was named a 2023 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention.

Westover finished the season with 433 receiving yards, the third-most on the team. His 46 receptions rank him fourth in program history for a tight end in a single season.

Pro Football Focus gave Westover an overall grade of 74.5 and a run-block grade of 73.3 for his 2023 season.

Westover did not participate in the 2023 NFL Combine drills but did display his talent at Washington's Pro Day.

NFL Next Gen Stats gave Westover a production score of 64, an athleticism score of 69 and a total score of 67.

The following is NFL analyst Lance Zierlein's evaluation of Westover:

"H-back prospect with good quickness and footwork as a pass catcher underneath. Westover figures to be targeted as an F tight end with fullback potential. He’s not a very strong blocker at the point but there are technical corrections that should help him improve in that area. He’s capable of uncovering underneath and has the speed to threaten the seam. He’s a wily zone-beater but is fairly pedestrian after the catch. Westover will have a shot to make the roster for a team looking to operate out of heavier personnel groupings."

Westover played five seasons for the Huskies after redshirting the 2018 season. He totaled 849 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns during his time with Washington.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
