Las Vegas Raiders' Maxx Crosby is Conscious of Who He Keeps Around Him

Las Vegas Raiders veteran defensive lineman Maxx Crosby is determined to protect his mental state. Part of how he does so is by keeping the right people around him.

Few players in the National Football League have the drive and motor Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby possesses.

Crosby's work every season is well-noted. However, the veteran defensive end says keeping the right people around him and protecting his mental state are two reasons for his success.

“I'm constantly training my mind, not only from mentors that I have in my corner, from former players, former Hall of Famers -- Tim Grover's in my corner and Aaron Donald's in my corner,” Crosby said in a press conference on Monday. “I mean, Rod Marinelli is in my corner, and Rick Slate in the weight room's in my corner. I have dudes who truly have done it at the highest level in all types of sports and activities in general.

“So, I just try to surround myself with greatness at all times. And a guy even off the field, Dana White, Floyd Mayweather, they're all in my Rolodex of people I talk to, and that's the only people I want to associate with is people that are on my same wavelength. I think that's super important, and I've talked about it enough – who you surround yourself with.”

Crosby said he is conscious of the people he has around him and that those closest to him -- mainly his family -- mean the most.

“For me, at the end of the day, if you're my family or whatever, it doesn't matter,” Crosby said. “All that matters is the people that are truly there for you. You could have a label as 'This is my brother, this is my dad,' whatever.

“But if they're not treating you right, then what's the point, you know what I mean? It's just the label. Real family, real blood is being there when times aren't great, you know what I mean? Being there every single day, regardless of what's going on. So, that's how my circle is. It's all people that are chasing greatness every single day and have already achieved it but are still chasing more.

“And that's what I surround myself with every single day, and that's all that matters to me and, obviously, my girls, my wife, and my daughter. So yeah, you have to be constantly curious and constantly challenging yourself with not only your work ethic and physical part but your mind as well."
