Las Vegas Raiders' Kolton Miller Remains One of the Top OTs in the NFL

Las Vegas Raiders' left tackle Kolton Miller once again had an excellent season, solidifying himself as one of the best at his position.

Finding a franchise left tackle is one of the most important things in football.

Often, this player protects the quarterback’s blind side and sets the tone for the rest of the offensive line. Many teams have not been so lucky to find an elite player at this position, and their offensive lines suffer for it.

The Las Vegas Raiders are not one of those teams. They found their franchise left tackle when they selected Kolton Miller with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of UCLA. He eventually rounded into the elite player he is now.

Miller came into the draft as a raw prospect in that draft class. He had excellent size at 6-foot-9 and 309 pounds, coupled with extraordinary athleticism, but he was not a very technically refined player. It took a few years for Miller to develop, but he certainly did and is now one of the best left tackles in the NFL.

One statistic in particular shows how effective Miller has been. He had another excellent season in 2023 despite missing time with a nagging shoulder injury. According to Pro Football Focus, no tackle to play 700 snaps or more during the 2023 season allowed fewer QB pressures than Miller.

PFF also revealed that Miller had an outstanding season overall. He posted an 80.2 overall grade, the third-best grade of his career, which would likely have been higher had he not gotten injured. Miller posted five games this past season where he did not allow a single pressure.

Miller’s massive frame allows him to create a wall in pass protection. Very few defensive players can get around or through him when his pad levels are low, and he has the leverage advantage.

Miller is already incredibly valuable to the Raiders but may be more valuable heading into the 2024 season. The Raiders are searching for answers on the right side of their offensive line and will either have Aidan O’Connell or Gardner Minshew at quarterback, so Miller will have to step up in a big way.

The Raiders are fortunate to have a player like Miller at left tackle, who only appears to be improving as his career continues.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
