Robert Spillane Wants Las Vegas Raiders to Build Momentum for 2024

Las Vegas Raiders captain Robert Spillane hopes the team can build on the momentum it found at the end of the 2023 season.

The Las Vegas Raiders improved tremendously on defense last season for several reasons.

One of those was the addition of linebacker Robert Spillane, whom they signed during the 2023 free-agency period. Spillane had the best season of his career after the Raiders gave him an opportunity for a larger role, posting 148 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, three interceptions and 3.5 sacks. Spillane was a major upgrade in the middle for the Silver and Black.

The other reason for the defensive success was the promotion of Antonio Pierce to interim head coach. Players, including Spillane, bought into Pierce’s vision. They started playing inspired football and were a suffocating unit under his watch.

The Raiders created strong momentum at the end of 2023. There is palpable buzz surrounding this team, and there is a real belief within the locker room that it can maintain that momentum when the 2024 season comes around.

Spillane talked about how the Raiders can carry the momentum into the new season when he addressed the media on Monday.

“For sure,” he said, confirming the feeling of momentum. “There’s so much to learn and to grow from last year, but at the end of the day, it’s going to be a new group of guys. It’s going to be 90 unique individuals joining a team with one goal in mind: to win a world championship. And I think we set the tone for that today at the start of the offseason. A lot of our core group of guys know what they want and are vocal about it and are willing to go out on a limb and say, ‘This is what we want from our teammates. This is what we expect from ourselves.’ So, I’m proud of how we started day one.”

Spillane has become a vocal leader on this Raiders team. He knows last season was a step in the right direction, and now the team has to take that momentum it built and bring it to the new season.

Spillane will be one of the loudest voices in the locker room, along with defensive end Maxx Crosby, in bringing the team together to move towards its goal of winning a championship.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
