Training camps in the NFL are set to begin on July 28, less than two weeks from now. Players in the league have continually expressed concerns to the NFLPA over the protocols that the NFL has talked about implementing to deal with COVID-19 and whether they will go far enough to protect players.

One measure announced recently would certainly seem to go the right way in easing some concerns: no fans will be allowed at training camps this year for any team, as first reported by Pro Football Talk.

In an email to PFT, league spokesman Brian McCarthy said: “This is a league-wide policy. Clubs may hold up to two events at their stadium provided they adhere to all state and local guidelines.”

It’s not that surprising that the NFL wouldn’t let fans attend training camps due to COVID-19. However, considering how close it is to the date that training camps are set to open, it might be a little concerning that the NFL and NFLPA were only now able to agree on a significant measure like this.

It will also be interesting to see what teams might be able to look into for holding the two-events McCarthy mentioned would be allowed, as long as it follows under that team’s state guidelines.

Depending on those guidelines, organizations might not be able to host any fans, who having previously attended training camp practices, would be the first of what could be a series of lost activities for NFL fans.
