Who Will Take the Next Step in the Raiders TE Room?

Many questions must be answered before this year's Las Vegas Raiders training camp.

One of those questions is, who will be the starting tight end for the Raiders this NFL season? The Raiders parted ways with former tight end Darren Waller, who was traded for the 100th pick of this year's 2023 NFL Draft.

The Raiders this offseason decided to add three new tight ends to add to their roster. They signed Austin Hooper, O.J. Howard drafted rookie tight end Michael Mayer of Notre Dame in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Austin Hooper was signed in March to a one-year deal. He has had 339 receptions in his seven-year career for 3,468 receiving yards. He also has 25 touchdowns as an NFL tight end. He has played for multiple NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, the Cleveland Browns, and the Tennessee Titans.

The Raiders also signed veteran O.J. Howard, a veteran tight end who can bring a leadership role in the Raiders tight end room.

Howard was a first-round draft pick, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 19th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has had 129 receptions for 1,882 yards and 17 touchdowns in his six-year career.

Lastly, one player in the tight-end room has Raider Nation excited about what he can bring.

There was a complete shock when rookie-tight Michael Mayer dropped in this year's 2023 NFL Draft. The Raiders selected Mayer during round two of the draft. Many people believed Mayer should have been a first-round pick and even was the best player in the draft for his position.

Mayer spent three seasons playing at Notre Dame. During college, he played 36 games with 180 receptions for 2,099 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.

It will be entertaining to watch how these tight ends develop in the Silver Black and who will take over as the starting tight end for the Raiders.
