The Las Vegas Raiders are moving forward this season with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.

With Garoppolo, the Raiders have an accurate thrower, a winner, and a likable teammate. He has spent training camp developing chemistry with his teammates, especially the wide receivers.

While Garoppolo develops chemistry with wide receiver Davante Adams, he has built a nice rapport with first-year Raider Jakobi Meyers. Meyers comes over to the Raiders from the New England Patriots on a three-year contract.

Meyers is a savvy route runner who has a sure set of hands and can run multiple routes efficiently. He is exactly the kind of wide receiver Garoppolo enjoys throwing to.

Garoppolo addressed the media at training camp and spoke about developing chemistry with Meyers.

“Jakobi has been awesome, man,” Garoppolo said. “He had a hell of a day today, too. He came ready today. He’s another one of those guys like I was saying about Hunter [Renfrow], you could look at his eyes and know he’s made of the right stuff and he’s ready to go. He’s an impressive, big body guy who can go up and get the ball, can jump out of the gym. It’s been fun.”

Garoppolo and Meyers both spent time in Coach Josh McDaniels’ system in New England, so they know what each other’s roles in the offense are supposed to be. Meyers figures to be an important piece for the Raiders’ offense.

Garoppolo will likely throw to Adams the most, but Meyers has a chance to be second on the team in targets if he continues to develop chemistry with his quarterback.

Meyers has worked his way to becoming a quality NFL wide receiver after being an undrafted free agent in 2019. He posted more than 800 receiving yards in the last two seasons, and cashed in on a big free agent contract this offseason.

The Raiders are trying to get back to the postseason after falling short last year, and one way they can get back there is by being an unstoppable, explosive offense.

If Garoppolo can be on the same page as Meyers throughout the season, the Raiders offense will have yet another dynamic playmaker in the passing game.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
