The Las Vegas Raiders are coming off of their best defensive game of the season, and now welcome a reeling New England Patriots offense to Allegiant Stadium.

This is an opportunity for the Silver and Black to gain momentum and confidence going forward, as there are winnable games on their schedule in the coming weeks.

They must replicate their recent defensive outputs if they want that to happen, however. Having a good defensive unit can change the overall dynamic of their team, as forcing as many stops as possible gives the offense more chances on the field.

Before they can win games in the coming weeks, however, they have to win the game right in front of them. Let’s look at three key players on defense for the Raiders’ game against the Patriots.

Defensive Lineman Bilal Nichols -- Since the Patriots are not throwing the ball very well, they might decide to lean on their running game. That’s where Nichols can come in.

Nichols has not posted big numbers this season, but he has been key for the Raiders’ defense when it comes to stopping the run. The Raiders will need to shut down the running game and make quarterback Mac Jones throw the ball if they want to have success on defense.

Stopping the run should be a high priority for the Raiders, and Nichols will play a major factor in that.

Linebacker Robert Spillane -- Fresh off of his best game as a Raider, Spillane needs to have another good performance this week.

Tight end Hunter Henry is one of the Patriots’ top receiving options, so Spillane will have to make sure he does not get involved, or their passing game could get into a rhythm.

Spillane has been very good as a coverage linebacker this season, and his run defense was already top tier. He will need to have another good game in what is shaping up to be a career season.

Cornerback Tyler Hall -- With Nate Hobbs out and Jakorian Bennett questionable, a larger share of responsibility will go to Hall.

Hall was elevated off of the practice squad last week, and saw 30 snaps and was targeted three times, allowing only one completion, according to Pro Football Focus. He was elevated off of the practice squad again for this game.

After closing out last season strong, Hall will get another opportunity to showcase his talents for Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham’s unit.

The Silver and Black will stay home at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
