The Las Vegas Raiders have been busy gathering information on NFL Draft prospects, doing extensive research, and determining who is the best fit for the team, on and off the field.

While the Raiders addressed their need for defensive back help in free agency, this class is one of the deepest in recent memory at that position, and the Raiders could find some long-term options in their defensive backfield with their multiple draft picks.

One player they could select is Maryland’s, Deonte Banks, who has been a high riser recently due to his impressive physical traits and outstanding game tape. Look closely at Banks and see if he would fit in with the Silver and Black.

Banks was only listed as a three-star prospect by 247sports.com. He committed to Maryland and started 25 games in his four-year career, missing most of the 2021 season due to an injury.

Banks posted 83 career tackles, 11 pass breakups, and two interceptions with the Terrapins. He received Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2022.

As a prospect, Banks possesses the desired size and length for an NFL cornerback, standing 6-2 and weighing 205 pounds. He has fluid hips and has the ability to stay in stride with receivers downfield. He can also play in any coverage, being comfortable in man or zone.

Banks will want to improve his tackling and effectiveness against the run if he wants to stick around in the NFL. His coverage technique can also be inconsistent at times.

Deonte Banks is expected to be a first-round pick, with his stock only rising. If General Manager Dave Ziegler wants to add Banks to the team, he will need to either trade back into the first round or hope he’s there in the second, which seems unlikely.

Banks is one of the best cornerbacks in this draft class, and if Ziegler could get his hands on him, he would immediately become the Raiders’ top man in the defensive backfield.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this offseason.
