Raiders Opponent Rookie Spotlight: O'Cyrus Torrence

The Las Vegas Raiders will travel to Orchard Park, N.Y., to take on the Buffalo Bills this Sunday.

The Bills are looking to avoid losing their second straight game, while the Raiders are looking to remain undefeated.

The Bills have an incredibly talented roster, but one area where they struggled in Week 1 was along the offensive line.

The Raiders had two sacks and four quarterback hits against the Denver Broncos, and they will need to maintain and improve this production if they want to have a chance to beat the Bills.

One player who played well in the trenches was rookie guard O’Cyrus Torrence, who was a second-round selection of the Bills in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida, but had the makings of a first-round talent.

Torrence’s massive size prevents interior rushers from impacting the game. Torrence was an All-American and a First-Team All-SEC selection in his final season at Florida.

Torrence is a player who will try to prevent the Raiders from creating interior pressure. He was one of the biggest offensive line prospects in the draft, measuring at 6-foot-5 and 347 pounds. His presence on the interior should allow the Bills to run the ball up the middle effectively and protect quarterback Josh Allen in the pocket.

Torrence had a solid rookie debut, playing 69 total snaps at right guard and earning a 69.7 Pro Football Focus grade. He graded out as a better pass blocker than run blocker, but had an overall impressive game.

The New York Jets found success against the Bills’ offensive line and lived in their backfield, but Torrence allowed only three pressures and no sacks.

The Raiders’ defensive line will need to find ways to generate pressure on the interior against the Bills, so experienced players like Bilal Nichols and Jerry Tillery will need to find ways to get around the massive Torrence.

While Torrence wins with his size, quicker and more athletic rushers can beat him, as he is not overly fast. The Raiders can take advantage of this, as they have defensive linemen who can win with speed and quickness.

If the Raiders want to beat the Bills on Sunday, generating pressure on Allen is going to be key. While other offensive linemen on the Bills were beaten, Torrence often was not. The Raiders will need to find ways to beat Torrence to win the battles in the trenches.
