In this story:

HENDERSON, Nev.—As the Raider Nation anxiously awaits the announcement of the new franchise quarterback, presumably being picked a few moments after the 2026 NFL Draft opens, they got some good news today.

With the NFL Owners' Meetings concluding earlier this week, and all signs pointing to Tom Brady and John Spytek handing new coach Klint Kubiak Fernando Mendoza to eventually lead the franchise, fans won’t have to wait long to see him on the field, wearing Silver and Black.

The Details

With the Raiders adding Kubiak this year, the National Football League delivered an extra present to Raider Nation. Unfortunately, it is something they seem to get nearly every year with such frequent head-coaching turnover, but they have their fingers crossed that this will be the last time, for a long time.

Per the NFL, “New head coaches are entitled to conduct an additional voluntary veteran minicamp.  Any voluntary minicamp for veteran players must be conducted prior to the NFL Draft (April 23-25), but no earlier than week three of the club’s offseason workout program and after at least one week of the two weeks of Phase One activities that the clubs may hold pursuant to Article 21. This year, 10 clubs will hold voluntary veteran minicamps, as noted below.”

Spring Has Sprung

Nothing says that spring has sprung more than the start of the offseason workouts.

But a franchise that has been stuck in the throes of mediocrity, a proverbial dark winter, feels different in 2026.

The Raiders will not only have a bevy of new rookies, along with Fernando Mendoza, but they also have a new crop of free agents who have already upgraded the roster.

Getting on the field with a new coaching staff will not only help those in the building but, more importantly, the fans outside it, to turn the page and look toward a rebuild with hope.

GM John Spytek and coach Klint Kubiak have added 11 new free agents so far, and I think there is a great chance they may add more.  The class has earned the Raiders serious respect around the NFL. Here is a detailed list. While veteran QB Kirk Cousins has yet to officially sign, he will, so he is on this list. The Raiders dix an excellent job of adding players who will be impact partiipants in all three phases of the game, that will stand out to fans this coming seaason.
