Baltimore Ravens 'Best Fit' For Florida State's Trey Benson?

The Baltimore Ravens signed running back Derrick Henry during free agency, but could they add a rookie in Florida State's Trey Benson?

The Baltimore Ravens were again the NFL's best rushing team in 2023, averaging 156.3 yards on 31 attempts per game. The franchise then added Tennessee Titans star Derrick Henry to a room that already includes Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill.

With Gus Edwards moving on to the Los Angeles Chargers and J.K. Dobbins a free agent, the Ravens still have the nucleus of a stellar running back room with Henry leading it. A tandem of Henry and Mitchell is an eye-popping prospect, but could there be another back coming to Baltimore?

Granted, there are a host of other pressing needs on offense, with a running back not high on the wish list in the first round. But what about later in the draft? CBS Sports has named the Ravens as the best fit for Florida State's Trey Benson as a second-round selection.

"Benson could serve as a strong complement to any established running back," CBS Sports writes. "He is an end zone magnet: His 23 rushing touchdowns since 2022 lead the ACC and rank as the ninth most in the nation over the span of the last two seasons... Should his medical evaluations with teams go well, Benson could provide nice value as a Day 2 selection."

In his two seasons with Florida State, Benson totaled 1,896 rushing yards, 23 touchdowns and averaged 6.1 yards per carry. That kind of production would be welcomed in Baltimore.

But given the Ravens' options at running back with Henry and Mitchell, the potential selection of Benson might be seen as a waste.

However, Benson's violent running nature and physicality could appeal to Todd Monken. With Henry as the bruiser and Mitchell as the change-up with his lightning feet and explosiveness, a third option in Benson might prove useful.

Additionally, with Henry entering the latter stages of his career and being on a two-year deal, could the Ravens see Benson as a potential successor to the King?

Either way, the Ravens have a stellar running back room, which could get even better with the addition of Benson - as long as Baltimore does have to reach in the draft to select him.
