Todd Monken Ravens Biggest X-Factor Next Season?
The Baltimore Ravens have flipped the script offensively, with Todd Monken being named offensive coordinator. After years of success with Greg Roman and a run-first approach, a change was needed.
That led Baltimore to Monken, who was the Georgia Bulldogs' offensive coordinator from 2020-2022 and is known for his high-flying offense. With a more vertical style system being preferred, the Ravens signed wideout Odell Beckham Jr. and drafted receiver Zay Flowers while also signing free agent Nelson Agolor to their wideout ranks.
With so much offensive firepower at Lamar Jackson's disposal, CBS Sports.com has named Monken as the Ravens' biggest X-factor entering the new season.
"The Ravens basically told us this was their X-factor when they made the move to fire longtime coordinator Greg Roman and hire Monken in his stead," CBS Sports writes. Monken is charged with opening up and modernizing the passing-game concepts to complement the diverse, efficient run game the Ravens have built since Lamar Jackson assumed the starting job.
"He'll have help in the form of Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, and Zay Flowers joining the receiving corps, but the concepts need to put Jackson in far better position to succeed than the ones that the Ravens have been utilizing over the past few years. And that's on Monken."
With arguably the best collection of offensive talent Jackson has ever had since entering the league, the weapons need to be utilized in the right way, and with Monken, the mastermind of it all, it falls on him.
On paper, Baltimore has one of the most explosive offensive units in the league, but that will count for little if Monken can't put the team in positions to win consistently.
With Jackson, the leader of the offense, and Monken giving him the option to do what he sees fit, the untapped potential of Baltimore's attack is intriguing.
Is Monken Baltimore's biggest X-Factor entering next season? With a new approach and weapons the envy of the league, his game plan will ultimately decide the Ravens' playoff fate.
