Ravens 'Unsung Hero' Demarcus Robinson: Quality Among Change

Demarcus Robinson led Baltimore in receptions and yards, making him the Ravens' "unsung hero."

If the 2022-23 Baltimore Ravens were a movie, the leading man is obviously quarterback Lamar Jackson, with a large cast of main characters that include tight end Mark Andrews, wide receiver Devin Duvernay, and cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

But as the credits roll on, which player would earn the spotlight as an unsung hero?

NFL.com picked one unsung hero, whose contributions flew under the radar, from all 32 teams. Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson is the Ravens' representative.

I could easily fill this spot with Devin Duvernay, an overlooked receiver who also did a solid job in the return game when called upon, but I'm going with a personal favorite whom I've long seen as a player poised to produce with more targets.

Robinson spent the first six years of his career filling the WR3/4 role in Kansas City, never seeing more than 59 targets in a season while consistently producing between 250 and 475 receiving yards each year. I figured he'd get more looks in Baltimore, where the Ravens have lacked weapons outside and traded Marquise Brown to Arizona last offseason.

Instead of fully breaking out, Robinson finished with another solid season: 48 receptions, 458 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He's my unsung hero, though, because he did this while again playing a secondary role with a team that ended up trotting out three different quarterbacks in 2022.

No matter the passer, you can count on Robinson as a quality supporting cast member. That deserves some praise.

A highlight from Robinson came in Week 10 when the seven-year veteran had a career-high nine catches for 128 yards in a win over the Carolina Panthers. Robinson again showed off his speed with a 41-yard touchdown catch in the Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

To add to the 'unsung hero' storyline, Robinson was cut by the Las Vegas Raiders in August and then went on to lead Ravens wide receivers in receptions and yards. Baltimore's receiver unit was decimated by injuries, yet Robinson found success catching passes from three different quarterbacks.

While the Ravens gave the Bengals a surprisingly-competitive game without Jackson, the team ultimately was knocked out of the playoffs by quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals. While searching for an offensive coordinator, Baltimore will be watching the Super Bowl from home on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The Kansas City Chiefs (1.5-point underdogs) will try to pull the upset over the Philadelphia Eagles in Glendale, Ariz. to become Super Bowl LVII Champions.
