Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has a message for his critics - straight out of The Bible.

And one of the harshest critics of the way Jackson has conducted his contractual business has a message for the tagged QB - straight out of the law books.

"No weapon formed against me shall prosper," said the star quarterback this week via Twitter, a reference to another tumultuous chapter in Jackson's contract stalemate as it is alleged that a business associate named “Ken Francis” may have been trying to negotiate deals with NFL teams on Jackson's behalf.

The NFL took this seriously enough to issue a memo instructing teams to refrain from contact with Francis because he is not an NFLPA-certified agent.

Jackson’s response: Francis is not his negotiator, but rather his business partner in a business selling portable home gym systems.

It is without argument a mess on many levels as Jackson is seeking a new long-term contract while being displeased with the non-exclusive franchise tag, which allows him to negotiate with any team - but with the Ravens retaining the right to match any offer that Jackson is presented with.

While the Ravens could pass on matching and receive two first-round draft picks in return, no team has bothered to bid - in large part (“collusion” accusations aside) because they all assume Baltimore will simply match.

So … no movement.

Lamar is trying to do all of this without an agent, and he’s earned criticism for that. (The verse from The Bible surely points at these critics, too.)

Is Lamar’s stubbornness in play here?

A solution from the lawyerly Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk? Hire a “secret agent.”

“He could try to secretly retain an NFLPA-certified agent,” Florio writes. “Hire an agent and decline to sign a Standard Representation Agreement, which makes the relationship public and open and known. …”

And then keep it all a secret.

Frankly, though, being “secretive” about it - saving face as it might - would only work in the short term. Leaks and whispers are as inevitable as critics … and no amount of secrets or even Bible verses seem likely to alter that.
