New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees took to social media and blasted the NFL for its lack of cooperation with the NFLPA in establish suitable protocols. Currently, NFL players are not completely buying into the new COVID-19 standards set by the league. Rookies are due to report on July 21, 2020. Veterans are scheduled for July 28th to report at their respective team's training camps.

We need Football! We need sports! We need hope! The NFL’s unwillingness to follow the recommendations of their own medical experts will prevent that. If the NFL doesn’t do their part to keep players healthy there is no football in 2020. It’s that simple. Get it done.

The interesting part of Brees' statement was the "NFL's unwillingness to follow the recommendations of THEIR OWN medical experts..." However, a few days ago, the NFL team physicians did recommend it was "safe" to open training camps.

According to Josh Alper's report this week, DeMaurice Smith, NFLPA Executive Director, mentioned, "team doctors had “a couple reservations” about resuming work right now, but that they provided medical reasons” why their overall opinion is that it is safe to move forward at the moment."

The NFL rookies, coaches, and staff members will be in attendance on Tuesday to receive the new class of NFL players. If a resolution between the NFL and NFLPA is not reached, will the union recommend the players not to report on July 28th? Will there be a potential work stoppage as a result? At this point, the players' safety is paramount and can the NFL and NFLPA come to some terms within the next several days.

Drew Brees, 41, will be entering his 20th NFL season.  He re-signed with the New Orleans Saints in free-agency to a 2-year contract estimated close to $25M per year.   Brees came under scrutiny during the offseason after an ill-advised comment for not supporting players who may not stand during the playing of the National Anthem.  The comments were during a Yahoo Finance interview.  Since, he has apologized and listened to the concerns of his minority teammates and other players, celebrities, and social activists regarding his views.

New Orleans is set to open the 2020 Regular season against QB Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 13, 2020 at home in New Orleans.  The game starts at 3:25 PM in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.  Fox Sports will broadcast the contest of two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Brees and Brady.
