The Seahawks walked away with a 24-20 win over the Browns on Sunday, and while it might not have been the most stylish of wins, the team was effective enough on both sides of the ball to earn the victory.

While the offense has suffered some growing pains at times this season, the defense has been stout. Especially over the last four games where it's allowed an average of just 12.5 points per contest in wins over the Giants, Cardinals and Browns, and a loss to the Bengals.

A lot of the attention on defense this season has been steered toward rookie corner Devin Witherspoon, veteran Jamal Adams and fan-favorite Bobby Wagner - and rightfully so. But another pair has quietly been an integral part of the defensive effort and coach Pete Carroll has noticed.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks (56) breaks up a pass to Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson (14) during the second half at Lumen Field.

Jordyn Brooks

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks, a first-round pick back in 2020 from Texas Tech, has gotten progressively better each season he's been in the league. He's already posted a career-high in sacks with 3.5 in seven starts and has 67 total tackles on the season with six for loss. He's also added a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and four quarterback hits.

"He's on it. He's on his game," Carroll said. "He's just playing great, physical football. He's a fantastic linebacker. He runs and he hits and he can make things happen. We keep trying to put him in places and just accentuate the fact he's that kind of factor. He's doing great."

Along with Brooks, fellow linebacker Boye Mafe is having a stellar year. The 2022 second-round draft pick from Minnesota surpassed his rookie sack total of three with five this season. Mafe has added 62 total tackles, one fumble recovery, and nine tackles for loss plus 13 quarterback hits.

"That he just continues to just play really solid, consistent football," Carroll said. "He's kind of been doing it the whole time, for a month. Great to see. Really relying on him and he came through again.
