Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Reveals 'Powerful Trait' That Propelled Seattle to Win Over Titans

The Seattle Seahawks came up clutch to defeat the Tennessee Titans, and head coach Pete Carroll described a powerful trait within his team that was key in the win.

The Seattle Seahawks needed another game-winning drive, this time from Geno Smith, to overcome a plucky Tennessee Titans team in a 20-17 nail-biter on Sunday in Nashville.

Needing a touchdown to take the lead late, Smith and the offense went to work and orchestrated a 17-play, 53-yard drive that ended with a Colby Parkinson go-ahead touchdown.

The offense wasn't at its best throughout the game but came up big in the fourth quarter, as there were two 13-plus play drives that led to touchdowns.

For head coach Pete Carroll, the way the offense went about its business was great. He highlighted the mental belief that is flowing through the team right now.

Seattle Seahawks tight end Colby Parkinson (84) celebrates with quarterback Geno Smith (7) after scoring the game-winning touchdown during the second half against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium.

“We executed beautifully in that situation, where you’ve got to wait and be patient to make your plays,” Carroll said. “Geno did a great job and Shane (Waldron) did a great job to communicate it. Fantastic. I think the focus goes to the big guys up front. The pass-pro that whole time and just keep them off of him so he could make the plays and the guys can make the great catches and the first downs and all that.

"Jaxon’s (Smith-Njigba) big play, Tyler’s (Lockett) big play and of course, Colby’s (Parkinson) at the end was fantastic. So, it was a exciting win for us. The belief in this locker room is strong, that we can take on whatever we've got to take on. We'll have our wits together and we’ll execute and function no matter how long it takes to get it. That's a powerful, powerful trait. So hopefully we can hold on to that.”

The win keeps Seattle in the playoff spots (currently the No. 7 seed) with two games left in the regular season. With two winnable games left against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks can find some form before the playoffs.

After being on a four-game losing streak and having their season in danger of slipping away, the team has rallied and has now won back-to-back games as their confidence has returned.

The path forward is simple for Seattle - win out and it will secure its spot in the postseason. If the Seahawks do that, they will be coming into the playoffs on a four-game winning streak and will fancy its chances.

The Seahawks did what they needed to against the Titans, and with the self-belief flowing through the locker room, they will be in a confident mood ... and a confident Seattle team is a dangerous proposition for anyone it meets in the playoffs.
