Seahawks Nostalgia Key in Getting Bobby Wagner Back 'Home'?

Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner is a free agent with several teams interested, but could his long affiliation with the Seattle Seahawks be the key in the All-Pro returning?

Free agent linebacker Bobby Wagner has no shortage of suitors for his services, but one might hold the inside track — the Seattle Seahawks.

While the likes of the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills have all have their names mentioned as possible destinations, the Seahawks could clearly tug at the heart strings for Wagner as well.

Coming off another good season with the Los Angeles Rams that saw Wagner total a career-high six sacks, the six-time All-Pro has his choice of landing spots.

But when it comes to Seattle, it has a different feel to others. While there is a Seahawks connection with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, the "going home" factor could see Seattle pip others to sign the linebacker.

Having been drafted by the Seahawks and then spending a decade with the organization, the potential to finish his career back where it started could prove telling.

We know that players like to sign one-day contracts to retire as a member of a team they hold close to their heart, and in Wagner's case, for a linebacker who some think that can't run anymore, coming back to where it all began and proving those wrong, could be the motivation in getting a deal done.

Not only that, the thought of improving what was a playoff team (albeit surprisingly) last season that was ranked 25th in the NFL for points against (23.6) and the league's third-worst against the run (allowed an average of 150.2 yards per game), his addition could go a long way in somewhat rectifying the defense's deficiencies

Wagner is likely coming to the end of his storied NFL career, and while he has a year or two of top-tier football left in him, the emotional effect of returning to Seattle could prove too good to turn down.
