Seattle Seahawks Ex Chad Wheeler Guilty, Faces Prison After Using 'Deadly Force' on Girlfriend
Former Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Chad Wheeler has been found guilty on two counts of domestic violence involving his former girlfriend Alleah Taylor, and is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 14.
Is it being alleged that Wheeler, who reportedly suffers from bipolar disorder, held down the woman and twice choked her until she lost consciousness. Taylor told police that when she survived the attack, "Wheeler expressed surprise that she was still alive.''
Wheeler was with the Seahawks when he was arrested in January 2021. He has said he was experiencing a "manic episode'' that triggered the incident. He pleaded not guilty to criminal charges of first-degree domestic violence assault, domestic violence unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest.
Taylor, who sustained injuries as a result of the alleged episode with Wheeler, wrote on social media on Thursday, "I finally have justice."
Wheeler entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from USC in 2017, first playing with the New York Giants from 2017 to 2019 and then joining the Seahawks.
Seattle cut him shortly after the incident with Taylor. ... and Wheeler's issues continued when he allegedly removed his electronic home monitoring device in the summer of 2022 and then stripped off his clothes to walk the streets of Redmond naked.
He reportedly said that he was experiencing a serious “mental health crisis” at the time.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said a jury determined that Wheeler, 29, "used force or means likely to result in death.'' The State can now seek a mandatory minimum of five years for the first-degree assault charge, and possibly more based on the second-degree assault charge.
