Cowboys' Dan Quinn vs. Ravens' Mike Macdonald? Seahawks Waiting on 'Obscure' Hire?

Dallas Cowboys' Dan Quinn vs. Baltimore Ravens' Mike Macdonald? Seattle Seahawks Waiting on 'Obscure' Hire?

The Seattle Seahawks continue to search for Pete Carroll's successor. And maybe they are closer to securing their target than it seems.

With Dallas Cowboys coordinator Dan Quinn thought to be the frontrunner, why haven't the Seahawks done that deal?

Quinn, Johnson, Macdonald

Former Seahawks safety Paul Moyer thinks that the reason for the long wait is because either the team's original target has already been signed by another club or that they are waiting for this round of the playoffs for an "obscure" pick.

“I thought, 'Hey, the reason why they kind of moved on from Pete a year before his contract expired is because there’s somebody that’s there and the window is closing, they gotta get him now,” Moyer said on Seattle Sports' Wyman and Bob. “It’s not the case at all. It’s actually that they’re going to do an exhaustive interview process.”

“The one thing I worry about, though, with this taking a long time, is there a guy you would have wanted that’s already off the table?” Wyman later said. “It makes me think that (their top target is still available), and that it’s maybe more of an obscure pick or it’s somebody that’s on one of these teams that we’re waiting to get eliminated (from the playoffs).”

"Obscure''? Nah. "Waiting''? Yah.

Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald is a candidate here, as we've been reporting for weeks.

And Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson? He makes some sense as well, even though we wonder if Seattle is "leaning defense,'' with Quinn obviously an attractive name.

But "obscure''? Maybe compared to Quinn, who is 53, with all his skins on the wall. Macdonald is 36. Johnson is 37.

Perhaps the Seahawks are indeed waiting to see how the Championship games shake out before going ahead with the interviews.

But a drawback is that if both Detroit and Baltimore win their respective games today, then the Seahawks will have to wait another couple of weeks to get the entire process done.

The Seahawks' head coaching process still isn't finished yet, and depending on how this weekend's games go, we could be accelerating another couple of candidates to the interview list.
