Jamal Adams Trade: Can Seahawks 'Convince' Teams to Bite?

The Seattle Seahawks are building a new future under coach Mike Macdonald, but they'll need to decide if veteran safety Jamal Adams will be here to see it through.

Adams remains under his four-year, $70.5 million deal next season. Per Spotrac, the Seahawks could take on about $20.8 million in dead cap by cutting him in 2024, which makes finding a potential trade suitor a key step the team could take.

Of course, coming to terms on a good haul for the 28-year-old could be tough for the Seahawks. He would bring with him a $16.5 million base salary, which could push teams away.

Along with the multiple injuries and lack of consistent production, Adams also had some questionable off-the-field actions over the past few months. He was seen yelling at the sideline at the unaffiliated neuotrauma consultant in Week 4 against the New York Giants after being ruled out with a concussion before insulting a reporter's wife on social media following criticisms for his defensive performance in Week 13's loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Considering all of this, it makes sense why Bleacher Report listed trading Adams as a "dream" scenario for Seattle this offseason.

“Convincing a team to take on Adams’ $16.5 million base salary wouldn’t be easy, given his recent injury history, and the Seahawks couldn’t expect a hefty return,” B/R writes. "However, even a high Day 3 draft pick would be preferable to releasing Adams outright or simply holding out hope that he can be a dependable contributor in 2024.”

The site points to the fact that Washington Commanders linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. worked with Adams during his last Pro Bowl season in 2020, making Washington a more realistic fit than other teams.

Take on dead cap or acquire a late draft pick in a potential? The decision is easy for the Seahawks if they do indeed decide to part ways with Adams this offseason, but they'll just have to ask around to find the right suitor first.

This past season, Adams appeared in nine games, tallying 48 total tackles and two passes defended.
