Report: New Seahawks Coach Mike Macdonald Received 'Multiple Offers' Before Landing in Seattle

Mike Macdonald was hired by the Seahawks to replace Pete Carroll, but the former Ravens defensive coordinator could've stayed way closer to Baltimore.

Former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was recently introduced as the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks to replace the departed Pete Carroll, marking the team's ninth name to hold that position since its inception in 1976.

Carroll is a legend in Seattle, and rightfully so. He's by far the organization's most successful coach, winning two NFC Championships, one Super Bowl, five NFC West titles and 10 playoff appearances in 14 seasons.

But reports are there was a chance for Macdonald to stay in town - kind of - and not travel to the West Coast for work.

ProFootballTalk reported through a league source that Macdonald was offered the Washington Commanders head coaching job too after Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson removed his name from consideration for the job.

Macdonald obviously chose the Seahawks over the Commanders for undisclosed reasons, some of which might be obvious to some fans. The Seattle franchise seems much more stable, although with the ownership change in D.C., a culture change is certainly on the doorstep.

The Commanders instead announced former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn as their new coach, but Washington fans seem less than thrilled.

Quinn was just 43-42 as a head coach in Atlanta overall and just 3-2 in the playoffs, including an embarrassing and historic blown 28-3 third-quarter lead to the Patriots in an eventual loss in Super Bowl LI.

What could be worse for Commanders fans is the fact that Quinn appears to have been the team's third choice for the job behind Johnson and Macdonald. Another kick in the gut for Commanders fans who have had a long history of gut kicks.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks got their man and are moving forward quickly as Macdonald begins instilling his own culture in Seattle.
