Could Seahawks Use 1st-Round Pick on WR?

The Seattle Seahawks already feature one of the NFL's most potent offenses, but could add another weapon via the draft.

In their first season with Geno Smith leading the way the Seattle Seahawks fielded one of the best offenses in the NFL, averaging 23.9 points per game on 351.5 yards of total offense.

Despite that, though, the Seahawks might add another weapon for Smith to work with. One potential option for the Seahawks is former Denver Broncos receiver K.J. Hamler, having been named the ideal fit for the free agent by PFF.

However, while the signing of a guy like Hamler is possible, so is another route for the Seahawks - drafting a first-round receiver.

Yes, the Seahawks could value NFL experience over the mystery surrounding an incoming rookie. Even if that might be the case, this is a deep draft class at receiver and Seattle owns two first-round picks.

Owning the No. 20 overall pick makes for a scenario where this could be in play for the Seahawks. They can either wait and see who falls to them at their initial pick, or if a receiver they like is sliding down the board, they have the ammunition to go up and get their guy.

Of course, the Seahawks might not see the need to add a third receiver. But if they do, it could benefit them to go for a younger option in the draft compared to free agency.

Aside from Odell Beckham Jr., health issues notwithstanding, the free agent market at the receiver position has become noticeably thin.

Using Hamler as an example, the fourth-year receiver has only appeared in 23 games with six starts in three seasons. In those 23 games Hamler recorded 620 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 42 receptions.

Whereas the Seahawks could instead opt for a rookie receiver such as Ohio State's Jaxon-Smith Njigba or TCU's Quentin Johnston to form a trio with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Rather than taking a flier on a receiver in a quickly-thinning market, it could be an option with their first-round pick - whether its their own at No. 20 or a trade up into the early teens.
