Seahawks Select New Mexico S Jerrick Reed II With Pick No. 198 in NFL Draft

The Seattle Seahawks bolster their deep secondary with the selection of Jerrick Reed II in the sixth round.

It has been a strong draft for the Seattle Seahawks so far, and they look to add another key depth piece with the selection of safety Jerrick Reed II out of New Mexico with pick No. 198 in the sixth round.

Reed is another defensive piece added by the Seahawks in the draft, as they bolster an already strong secondary headlined by cornerback Tariq Woolen and safety Quandre Diggs. He joins Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who Seattle took at No. 5 overall.

In his final season at New Mexico, Reed put together a career year, recording 94 tackles. Across his four seasons he also showcased an ability to read the ball in coverage, recording seven interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and 21 passes defended.

Joining a deep Seattle secondary will allow Reed to transition smoothly to the NFL while he learns from players like Woolen. He will look to make a strong impression early for Seattle both on defense and special teams as a rookie, while the Seahawks hope he's their latest late-round secondary steal.

The Seahawks will be on the clock once again with pick No. 237 in the seventh round.
