NFL's Top 5 WR Groups: Where Do Seahawks Rank?

The Seattle Seahawks added Jaxon Smith-Njigba to their receiver room, but as a whole, where does the unit rank among the NFL's best?

The Seattle Seahawks, for many, knocked their 2023 NFL Draft out of the park when they selected Devon Witherspoon and Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round.

With Seattle having a top-10 offense in points scored last season (23.9 points per game), adding Smith-Njigba, who terrorized defenses in college, was seen as a great move.

ESPN's Mike Clay has ranked the current receiver rooms in the NFL, and maybe somewhat surprising to some, the Seahawks came in at No. 2.

1. Cincinnati Bengals

2. Seattle Seahawks

3. Miami Dolphins

4. Philadelphia Eagles

5. Dallas Cowboys

Let's delve into that a little bit.

For the Seahawks, having two 1,000-yard receivers last season in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett was seen as good enough. But add in Smith-Njigba, and now offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has a genuine three-headed monster at his disposal.

Of course, there are other weapons in Jake Bobo and Easop Winston Jr., who might announce themselves over the next month as well.

With the potential of Seattle's receiving room, Clay thinks that they have the potential to be the NFL's best by the end of the season.

"DK Metcalf is top 10 in receiving yards and touchdowns over the past three seasons and Tyler Lockett has 1,000-plus yards and eight-plus TDs in five straight seasons," Clay wrote. "They form an elite duo, and the unit got even better when Seattle spent the No. 20 overall pick on electric rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba. This could become the league's best trio by next season's end."

In his NFL preseason debut, Smith-Njigba caught three passes for 25 yards as he got a feel for what Week 1 could be like.

If Metcalf and Lockett continue to perform at their Pro Bowl levels and Smith-Njigba explodes onto the scene as many predict, there is no reason to think Geno Smith won't have one of the best receiving groups in the league to throw to.
