'We Gave It To Them!' Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Calls Out Players After Loss to San Francisco 49ers

The Seattle Seahawks entered Sunday's game against the division rival San Francisco 49ers in virtually a "must-win" situation if they had any hopes of making a repeat trip to the postseason.

With the 28-16 victory, the 49ers clinched a playoff spot - the first team in the league to do so - at 10-3. Meanwhile, fighting for their playoff lives are the Seahawks at 6-7 and losers of four straight.

In the two defeats to San Francisco this season, Seattle was outscored 59-29. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was openly frustrated on Sunday. Carroll even called out players who he says didn't perform up to standard on the field, in Jamal Adams and Julian Love.

Carroll said they say "nothing new" from the 49ers offense and yet the Seattle defense still had no answer.

“We gave it to them. Kittle in short yardage, in a play-action pass, their heavy personnel. He’s been doing that for his whole career,” Carroll said to the media after the game. “There was nothing new about those things. We didn’t execute well enough to stop those opportunities. That’s the stuff we practiced, and we needed to come through and make those plays. We didn’t do it.”

After naming Adams and Love specifically, Carroll said, “I don’t mind mentioning these guys. They know.”

Now, Seattle is on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, and hold the No. 9 seed in the NFC. The top seven teams make the postseason with the No. 1 team earning a first-round bye.
