Seahawks' Pete Carroll Reveals How LB Boye Mafe 'Sees Differently'

The Seattle Seahawks are hoping to improve from their surprisingly successful campaign last season while also developing some of the young talent on their roster.

The Seattle Seahawks are hoping to improve from their surprisingly successful 2022 campaign while also developing some of the young talent on their roster.

One such player who hopes to improve is 2022 second-round pick Boye Mafe, the 40th overall pick out of Minnesota. Mafe had a tremendous rookie season, posting three sacks to go along with 41 tackles (28 solo) while showing durability by playing in all 17 games.

As a result, coach Pete Carroll is excited about what Mafe can do this season.

“I think it’s to be expected that guys are going to get better," Carroll said. "I heard somebody mention the ‘sophomore slump.’ I don’t understand that. I have never seen that. I see the second-year opportunity as one for growth. I think (Boye) Mafe is showing it. A great illustration of that. Talk to him and he will tell you. He sees differently the timing of things, the feel for things, the expectations and anticipations; everything is at a different level. He played terrifically the other night and continues to be consistent on the practice field.

Mafe shares the excitement of his coach, too.

"I'm excited. Honestly, I feel like now, especially with having the guys coming in and having guys coming back, it pushes the room and sets our standard high. There's a high standard in the room already, but now this high standard is gonna go to another level."

The Seahawks wrap up their preseason on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
